Can't I just build it...

Albuquerque Mountain Rescue is a volunteer Search and Rescue organization that I have been involved with for over 6 years. During this time I was involved in the administration of the team, in one role or another. I had a very good idea on what content and functionality was needed. So I asked myself, "Can't I just build it?"

No! Even though I developed this site in a agile manner, I still spent a lot of time designing on paper (in the sketch book), identifying the goals of end users, toying with different navigation schemes, writing out lists of tasks, etc... After the brainstorming I documented the site architecture (as seen below) and then went back to the sketch book to iterate some more until I was ready to start coding.

  • Public Home PageAMRC needed a stronger presence on the web that would convey detailed information about the organization including: membership information, donations, and the ubiquitous "about us" section.
  • Intranet > NewsTeam members can access private information the password protected intranet. The news and schedule section of this is also dynamically posted on the public site. The intranet will continue to grow in the future.
  • Intranet > News (logged in)Designated team members can add, update, or delete content.
  • Intranet > Schedule > Edit (logged in)All of the forms are designed to make repetive actions easy. The user can select from a list of defualt options for dates and time or they can enter their own.
  • Intranet > Schedule > Edit (logged in)Informative error handeling keeps the user on track.
